Organisation

Diakron is a platform and studio for transdisciplinary research and practice. We establish collaborations across disciplinary backgrounds and institutional frameworks. Our own backgrounds are composed of experiences from artistic practices, curatorial practices, social sciences and graphic design.

Diakron is based on explorative research as a core value. This means, that we adapt what our practices do and what the organization is, according to the research projects we undertake.

We are currently interested in creative and explorative ways of identifying and dealing with changes, that invisibly permeate or unavoidably overwhelm ways of life. This work is tied to concerned interests in various pervasive ecological, humanitarian, existential, digital, or economic shifts. We approach these issues through experimentation with our own ways of working and the relationships we maintain through our practices.

Our modes of engagement, processes of making and research methodologies grow out of our projects and collaborations. We combine our transdisciplinary outset with an open-ended and relational approach to methodological experimentation. Outputs and expressions are not predetermined, but are developed in a responsive manner according to each research process.

Art and Datalogy (ADA)

Since 2019 we have collaborated with Martin Dybdal, Christine Sarah Andersen and Tina Virenfeldt Kristensen from the Department of Computer Science at Copenhagen University (DIKU), to devise an art strategy and lead its implementation. The strategy was finalised in 2020, after which we have worked on its realisation. At the time of writing, we have received support for the project from Bikubenfonden and are conducting a wider round of fundraising.

The strategy proposes to set up ADA (Art and Datalogy), in order to explore what might come from introducing artistic practices into the context of DIKU in a number of ways.

An artist-in-residence programme, will have artists working alongside researchers at DIKU for a minimum of 6 months.

Curated exhibitions will unfold across the DIKU premises, and to the degree possible, be open for the public.

Events, workshops and other dialogical formats, will initiate new conversations.

Ongoing process-oriented mediation of the project, will be published on select digital platforms and media.

In the longer run, it is our hope that artists will be able to apply for research funding, in the form of phds or postdocs. Furthermore, the project is aimed at capacity building, in order to prepare for a possible move of DIKU to new premises in the next 5-10 years.
